There is no Aunt Hilda without Aunt Zelda and now the Sabrina reboot for Netflix has found the beloved teenage witch’s other famous aunt! The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Miranda Otto (Lord of the Rings, Homeland) has landed the role of Zelda Spellman as a series regular.
Joining Lucy Davis (Hilda Spellman) and the leading lady herself, Sabrina Spellman (Kiernan Shipka), here is how Warner Bros. TV and Netflix describe their take on Zelda.
“Zelda Spellman, Sabrina’s sterner witch aunt. Proud and devout, Zelda believes there is no greater honor than serving the Dark Lord as a member of the Church of Night. She is the family’s disciplinarian, fiercely protective of Sabrina, and very much Cain to Hilda’s Abel.”
With both aunts set, we only have the casting for Harvey Kinkle left as Sabrina’s iconic boyfriend will be showing up in the reboot. We also know that Salem will appear, but it remains to be seen whether or not this version of the cat will be as chatty as the comic book version. Disclaimer: if we can have a show about witches, then surely a talking cat shouldn’t be too much to ask for?
Netflix’s untitled Sabrina series, starring Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman, Jaz Sinclair as Rosalind Walker, Michelle Gomez as Mary Wardell/Madam Satan, Chance Perdomo as Ambrose Spellman, Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman and Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, is set to premiere sometime in 2018.
